Watercolour Floral Illustration

Risha Lala’s watercolor and brush calligraphy is just beautiful. I came across her on Instagram. I am so delighted to invite her to share a tutorial of one of her latest posts. In this article you will find step-by-step instructions to make this watercolour floral illustration.

If you’re looking for ways to embelish your next calligraphy quote, try adding this floral illustration.

Gather your materials : For this piece , you will need :- – Brushpens or watercolors (I am using Karin markers Cerise (375) and Lilac (220) here.) ⁃ Paintbrush ⁃ Silver watercolor (optional) ⁃ Watercolor sheet ( I am using Canson 300gsm ) ⁃ Micron pens for outlining (or any other waterproof pen) ⁃ Tombow fudenosoke hard tip brushpen.

Make a pencil draft:-

Draw your favorite floral illustration, I have chosen to make these roses combined with these gemstones . I started off with one large circle and one just below the larger one as my guideline.

Then use your pencil, to create small tight petals fitting into the center guide , followed by alternately overlapping the petals out from the center . Continue to add larger and wider shapes (red color) Some are perfectly curvy and rounded. Others can have little rips and curls. Try to maintain a light hand during this entire process.

Use wet-on-wet technique:-

After applying plenty of water to my watercolor paper, lightly spread your first color randomly and then place your second color into the wet area of the paper. To blend two colors into each other in a gradient, add the different colors to either end of the wet space. You could also add some silver color to give it a shiny effect .

Next, Create these fun gorgeous splatters by using A LOT of paint and water (TAP! TAP ! TAP.)

Add Ink:-

Now, get out your Micron pens and use it to trace over your pencil draft. I love using these pens because even when you put some watercolor over it you will never face problems of smudging as they are waterproof.

Write your quote:-

Once your paper is fully dry you can write your favourite quote! I am using Tombow hard tip and write your quote .
